CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – As part of a partnership with the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the Childersburg City Council authorized their fire department to take the next “state of the art” step in EMS services available locally when they approved the purchase of a list of essential items needed to enable Childersburg ambulances to carry and administer blood products to patients.
The new equipment purchases include:
* Buddy Life Blood Warmer
* Medical Grade Refrigeration
* Portable Blood Cooler
* Internal Temperature Monitor
* Blood Warming Cartridge
The total cost is not to exceed $9,000 from Fund 65.
“The reason our department was selected for a growing partnership with UAB is that we have the expertise in our fire house to handle it,” explained Mayor Ken Wesson. “Our EMS force even provides training for Herzing Institute’s EMS programs. Our ambulances are equipped, and our personnel trained like very few others.”
The Council authorized a pair of hires for the Street Department. John Garrett will be a part-time temporary crew leader, paid at a rate of $11 per hour. Phillip Vetrano will be a full-time laborer at $10 per hour.
Childersburg Parks and Recreation was authorized to hire Jane Mizzell as a part-time temporary front desk clerk on an as-needed basis at a rate of $8.50 per hour.
The Council approved payment of invoices in the amount of $68,300.46.
The next regular Childersburg City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 15 at 6:00 p.m.
