CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – In New Business from the Tuesday, Aug. 20 meeting, the Childersburg City Council approved Ordinance #1145, relating to Discharging a Firearm within the city limits.
Council approval was given to Resolution 2024-11, which satisfies the regulatory requirements for the use of state gasoline tax funds as part of the Rebuild Alabama FY 2025 Rehabilitation Plan for roads.
With passage of Resolution 2024-12, Hurst Construction of Munford was awarded the renovation project that will soon become the new Police/Judicial Complex for the City of Childersburg. It will be located in the former Childersburg Medical/Surgical Building at 34011 US Hwy 280.
The cost of the project will be $2,342,569, paid with cash on hand from bond proceeds and other non-General Fund monies.
The Council approved Resolution 2024-13, which sets in motion an agreement with the East Alabama Regional Planning Commission to provide the services necessary to prepare a city-wide redistricting plan.
The cost will be $3,803.20. The last update of the voting districts was in 2011, well beyond the recommended 10-years.
Chief Kevin Koss introduced the city’s tenth graduate of the Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy during the current administration. Officer Andrew Buchanan graduated last week and is working to complete his supervised training in Childersburg.
Council approval was given to a pay increase for Christina Phillips to $10.80 an hour for the Senior Center/Transportation Department.
A pair of personnel matters were approved for the Childersburg Fire Department. Firefighter Scott Kines was classified as part-time temporary with no change on rate of pay. Brandon Bryan was classified as Full-time Permanent Firefighter and Paramedic with no change in his rate of pay.
Payment of invoices was approved in the amount of $203,038.78.
The next scheduled meeting of the Childersburg City Council will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 6:00 p.m.
