Childersburg City Council tackles vehicle decisions, road erosion, and more at the May 5 meeting

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – After a vehicle went down for the Childersburg Fire Department, the City Council identified a replacement: the Mayor’s administrative vehicle, a 2023 Ford Expedition, which the council transferred to the fire department.

Then, the Council approved the purchase of a 2026 Ford Expedition from Stivers Ford from the state bid list. It will be assigned as the new Mayor’s administrative vehicle, paid for from Fund 23 in the amount of $64,116.

The Council approved Johnny Swain to address a serious erosion issue that is threatening to wash out a section of Riverside Dr.

Swain will address road repairs, including the installation of curbing to prevent future erosion. The cost of $4,500 was approved and will be paid from the Fund 04 Gas Tax Account.

Approval was given for the Rainwater Library to advertise for a part-time temporary library assistant.

The Council approved a request from the Senior Center to purchase a stand-up freezer, not to exceed $800 in cost.

Approval was given to purchase a full-page color ad in The Daily Home’s First Responder Edition on Saturday, May 23 at a cost of $500.

The Council approved payment of invoices in the amount of $76,966.09.

The next regular meeting of the Childersburg City Council will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m. with a work session at 10:30 a.m.

Mayor Ken Wesson announced that the annual Senior Center Fish Fry will be held at the R.S. Limbaugh Community Center, starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15.
