CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council tabled action on a proposed Resolution until a called meeting on Friday, Dec. 5 at 10:30 a.m.
Resolution 2025-30 proposes the City of Childersburg intervene as a defendant in a lawsuit over the simplified seller use tax (SSUT). That surrounds the distribution of tax revenues from internet sales in Alabama. Council members want more information to better research the matter, which came as a request from the Talladega County Commission.
In another amended agenda item, the Council approved the expense of $848 to purchase a replacement freezer for Park and Recreation use for the softball field.
The Council approved an advertisement with the Childersburg High School baseball booster club, Childersburg Bases Loaded, in the amount of $300, paid from Fund 23.
A pair of training expense items were approved for the Childersburg Police Department. Chief Kevin Koss will attend the Alabama Association of Police Chiefs Winter Conference in Montgomery on Feb. 17-18, 2026, including a $200 registration fee and use of a city vehicle. Chief Koss will also attend the Real Deal Leadership Training in Anniston on April 8-9, 2026. There is no registration fee.
Payment of invoices was approved in the amount of $273,740.12, including the final payment on the construction of the new Police/Judicial Complex on Hwy 280.
There will be the aforementioned called meeting of the Council this Friday. The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 6:00 p.m.
