Childersburg City Council meeting – Nov. 1, 2022

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council met on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. with a full agenda of items for action.

Prior to the meeting, a public hearing was held concerning a pair of items from the Planning Commission that were subsequently handled as part of the amended agenda.

The council approved a pair of ordinances, relating to that public hearing. In passing Ordinance 1125, a 31.48 acre tract on Hwy 280 near Central Alabama Community College (CACC) was annexed into the city and zoned Residential High Density (R-5).

Ordinance 1126 amends Ordinance 1022, rezoning a pair of properties on 9th Ave. NW from R-3 to B2.

The council agenda included five resolutions, the first of which, Resolution 2022-54, approved an agreement between the Childersburg Fire Department and Alabama Fire College for the department to be designated as an off-campus training location.

Resolution 2022-55 was approved, authorizing the latest traffic signal agreement between the city and the Alabama Department of Transportation.

The council approved Resolution 2022-56 to make application for an ADECA grant for the police department for equipment with no match required.

Resolution 2022-57 approves construction of an ADA-compliant restroom facility at the Kymulga Grist Mill in the amount of $24,465 by Simmons Home Improvement.

The council approved Resolution 2022-58 to establish an account with Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union for the purpose of certificate of deposit investment.

A pair of items were approved for the police department to purchase four computer cradles for police units at a cost of $1,380. They also approved the annual LESO membership fee of $500 for equipment acquisition.

Also gaining approval was an advertisement with the Childersburg High School (CHS) Tip-Off Club in the amount of $300.

Council approval was given for payment of invoices in the amount of $73,567.05.

Of special note, during the meeting was an announcement that a world-renowned intubation expert has reached out to the Childersburg Fire Department. Dr. James Decanto wants to use media from the department’s video laryngoscopes to show advanced techniques on an adult female who had suffered a heart attack, as well as media from clearing an airway on a choking infant and inserting a breathing tube.

Dr. Decanto also wants to use the adult video in a presentation to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval of one of the techniques used in resuscitation along with other teaching moments nationwide.

The next regular meeting of the Childersburg City Council will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022.
