Childersburg City Council meeting – Feb. 2, 2021

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council met on Monday, Feb. 2, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. with the following agenda of items for action:

The Council voted to approve Ordinance #1118, which rezones properties at 803 & 805 3rd Street SW, and 311 8th Avenue SW to B-1, Business-Local zoning.

Also approved was Ordinance #1119, which authorizes and SRF Loan Series 2021 from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management in the amount of $254,007, with one approximately one-half of the amount forgiven, and the rest financed at zero interest for 20-years with an annual payment of $5,000. The funds will go to pay for storm drain repairs in the area of the intersection of Coosa and DeSoto Streets.

The Council approved Resolution 2021-02, which mends the current street paving project by amending Resolution 2020-20 from $896,000 to $1,103, 909.49 with a reimbursement from Talladega County in the amount of $40,871.

Also approved was Resolution 2021–03, which gives approval to purchase 20 units of Fire Department turn-out gear at a cost of $57,100 from National Cooperative Member, Municipal Emergency Services.

The Council gave approval to the firm of Kellum, Wilson, and Associates to perform FY 20, 21, and 22 City audits at an annual cost of $16,400.

Also approved was an item authorizing Mayor Wesson to request a survey and a certified appraisal for 5-acres of property in the Industrial Park, with the fees paid by the prospective buyer.

The Council gave approval for the Mayor and Council to attend the annual League of Municipalities Convention in Huntsville on May 12-15th, including registration, lodging, per diem, and lodging.

Also approved were the following items for the Police Department: 1) Purchase of a Pepper Ball System as a cost of $999.95, including training. 2) Kevin Koss to attend Crime Scene Investigation training in Citronelle on March 3-5th. 3) Enrollment of certified officers in Virtual Academy to obtain required training hours at a cost of $45 per officer for the year. 4) Chief Rick McClelland to attend the AACOP Winter Conference in Montgomery on Feb. 15-18th. 5) Hiring certified patrol officer Justin Gable at a rate of $15 per hour.

The Council approved for Jacob Maddox to be hired as a full-time permanent Firefighter Basic at a rate of $12.28 per hour, with the understanding that he will complete required basic certification within six months.

Payment was approved for invoices in the amount of $584,945.87.

The next regular meeting of the Council will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021.
