Childersburg City Council approves four resolutions during their Tuesday, Feb. 17 morning meeting

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council approved four resolutions during their Tuesday morning, Feb. 17 meeting, including one that amends a previous Purchase and Sale Agreement (PSA) Resolution, 2025-29.

Resolution 2026-05, regarding the Industrial Park acreage of a potential tenant, Old Town 109, LLC, to 1275 +/- acres and to authorize Mayor Ken Wesson in his capacity as LRA Chairman to execute future amendments to the PSA.

Resolution 2026-06 authorizes Mayor Wesson or his designee to execute a mutual aid agreement between the Childersburg Police Department and Central Alabama Community College’s Police Department.

Resolution 2026-07 authorizes Mayor Wesson or his designee to execute a Health Resources and Services Administration grant application for the Fire/Ambulance Department’s essential capital needs with no local match.

Resolution 2026-08 authorizes Mayor Wesson or his designee to execute a grant application through JMCM Consulting for an ambulance vehicle and equipment with a 20% local match.

The council made the following voting delegate assignments for April’s annual League of Municipalities Convention business meeting: Delegate – Mayor Wesson; First Alternate Delegate – Tommy Ivey; Second Alternate Delegate – Gerald Wallace.

Approval was given to the Childersburg Police Department to upgrade and install eight computers to include 32GB memory from Municipal Support Solutions in an amount to not exceed $9,760 from Fund 25.

The council gave approval for Randall Brackett Fire to perform repairs to the fire department’s test pumps at a cost of $5,313.40.

Payment of invoices was approved in the amount of $309,587.64.

The next regular Childersburg City Council meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3.

During the pre-meeting work session, the council discussed several proposals, but did not include either on the meeting agenda for the day. A proposal has been made to rename the park in Grove Park after Eugenia Dunlap. The Dunlap Family donated the property for the park decades ago.

The council heard another proposal from Tony Griffith, a representative of the US 250 Freedom Tour, for Childersburg to host Alabama’s stop on the tour in April. The proposal includes events the weekend of April 11-12 – Live music at John Cox Stadium, historic reenactments, and vendors in the First Baptist Church of Childersburg’s parking lot downtown. Griffith asked that the City of Childersburg become an event sponsor at a cost of $10,000.

It was announced that repairs were made to the leaf vacuum equipment, and the Street Department will restart the pick-up process on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The public is urged to check the City of Childersburg’s Facebook page for a new, updated leaf pick-up schedule.
