Childersburg celebrates birthday with CoosaFest 482 next Saturday

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Labeled as “Historic Childersburg” by the signs seen as one enters the city, the town founded almost a quincentenary ago will celebrate its 482 birthday next Saturday, April 23.

CoosaFest is an annual festival loaded with all you look for in such events — great music, an outstanding variety of delicious food, a superb line-up of vendors, and plenty of family-friendly fun.

The celebration of CoosaFest is grounded in history. It has been 482 years since explorer Hernando DeSoto left about 75 of his men in the Coosa Valley to establish trade with the Native Americans who gathered for that very purpose along the Coosa River.

For the past quarter century, the Greater Coosa Valley Chamber of Commerce has hosted a huge outdoor festival to mark the anniversary of that historic moment, the founding of historic Cosa which later became Childersburg.

This years music line-up features classic pop, country, and soul oldies. As for food, burgers, seafood, barbecue, gourmet hot dogs, special desserts, and more will be available throughout the day.

The celebration will last from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., and during that time you can visit with over 50 vendors that will line the streets of downtown Childersburg.

For the kids, bounce houses will be provided, but don’t be surprised if an adult or two is tempted to join.

CoosaFest is about you and your kids getting out for relaxed and enjoyable quality time with family and friends. After all, it’s a birthday party — the 482 birthday for the city of Childersburg!
