JEMISON, Ala. – The Childersburg Tigers baseball team captured their first win of the season on the diamond as they went on the road and defeated a Class 5A Jemison Panthers team by the score of 8-3.
Three pitchers combined for a six hit performance, striking out eight Panther batters in the process and only giving up four free walks. Luke Tanner was able to notch the first win for the Tigers pitching staff.
The Tigers were equally impressive at the plate, as they went 10-31 at the plate as a unit, with three different players getting RBIs (runs batted in).
The most impressive stat of all was Lane Dennis getting six of those by going a perfect 4-4 from the batter’s box and three of those hits left the yard.
It’s been a long time since a Tiger had a three home run performance in one game. In fact, Dennis was a grand slam shy of hitting for the Home Run cycle. In order, Lane hit a solo shot, a three-run bomb, and a two-run homer.
Coach Taylor Craven said, “We corrected some of our fielding mishaps from our first game and actually hit the ball very well. What a performance by Lane. Our pitching has been solid in the first two outings. Our coaching staff is very proud of our kids by going on the road and defeating a 5A team.”
The Tigers will come home now and face their county rival Sylacauga on Friday evening, Feb. 24. That game can be heard on the Tiger Sports Network on KiX 100.3 with the voices of Childersburg High School Athletics, Robert Sprayberry and David McCurley.
