CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg Area Chamber of Commerce announced that President and CEO John-Mark Freeman has been selected as a scholarship recipient through Alabama Chambers to attend the Participatory Leadership and Community Design Workshop – Your Town Alabama.

The scholarship supported Freeman’s participation in an intensive training focused on community visioning, strategic planning, and long-term economic development, equipping local leaders with tools to help shape the future of their communities.

Freeman described the workshop as a hands-on experience centered on how communities can intentionally guide growth and development.

“Strong communities don’t happen by chance. They are built through clear vision, collaboration, and action,” Freeman said.

The workshop emphasized identifying and building on community strengths, aligning stakeholders around a shared vision, and implementing practical strategies designed to enhance quality of life and economic opportunity.

Freeman said many of the concepts discussed align with ongoing efforts in Childersburg, including initiatives tied to economic development, tourism, and long-term planning.

“This opportunity is an investment in our community,” Freeman said. “We’re bringing back ideas, tools, and momentum that will help us continue building a stronger, more connected, and future-ready Childersburg.”

The chamber said lessons learned will be shared with community partners and incorporated into upcoming projects aimed at supporting business growth, attracting visitors, and strengthening long-range planning efforts across the city going forward.
