CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Besides unveiling the transition to the Childersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, the annual Chamber Banquet honored community excellence with awards while setting the stage for a brighter future.
Past Chamber Board Chair Mel Borden summed up the last year as officers, board members, and staff turning ideas into action with more than 30events that connect them to the community they serve.
Current Board Chair Travis Mizzell addressed the question, “What does the Chamber do?” by saying, “It follows a plan to strengthen the community, to make Childersburg a better place to live, work, and shop. The Chamber builds meaningful relationships and drives innovation.
Always a highlight of the annual event is the presentation of awards, and 2026 was no exception:
Police Officer of the Year:
The Chamber recognized Dylan Jenkins as Police Officer of the Year for his professionalism,
dedication, and commitment to serving and protecting the Childersburg community. Officer Jenkins’ service reflects the character, integrity, and responsibility that define exceptional law enforcement.
Firefighter/Paramedic of the Year:
Jeffrey Whitfield was named Firefighter/Paramedic of the Year in recognition of his courage,
compassion, and tireless service. His work exemplifies the highest standards of emergency response and reflects a deep commitment to the safety and well-being of the community.
Business of the Year:
Pam’s Hair Heaven was honored as Business of the Year for its decades-long commitment to service, community involvement, and continued investment in downtown Childersburg. Established in 1999, the business represents consistency, care, and local pride.
Industry of the Year:
Automation Robotics and Controls (ARC) received the Industry of the Year Award for its leadership in innovation, workforce development, and long-term economic investment. Since its founding in 2020, ARC has expanded operations, doubled its workforce, and constructed a new facility to support future growth.
Nonprofit of the Year:
The ALICE Community Center was recognized as Nonprofit of the Year for its measurable impact in education, workforce development, and community well-being. Through data-driven programming and historic redevelopment efforts, ALICE continues to expand opportunity throughout Childersburg and Talladega County.
Hall of Fame Inductee:
The Chamber’s highest honor, the Hall of Fame Award, was presented to Diane Kay for more than three decades of service and leadership. A longtime banking professional, civic volunteer, and Chamber supporter, Kay’s legacy reflects a life devoted to service, resilience, and community investment.
