SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A large crowd gathered to celebrate the 36-year career of Calvin Miller as the Director of Industrial Development in Talladega County.
City, county, state, Chamber of Commerce, and other entities presented Miller with proclamations, plaques, and other acknowledgements of his long-time success in eforts to expand the county’s employment base, upon his retirement after a 36-year Talladega County career.
Judge Julian King, the last remaining member of the committee that interviewed candidates for that then-open position, said of that process, “Calvin Miller immediately stood out in that process. His success in Selma and Dallas County indicated to us that he was the person we needed to raise the level of industry in Talladega County. Looking back at that challenge decades later, his success here tells me that we made the right call.”
Miller acknowledged the crowd gathered to honor him and his career, “Thank you all for being here, as well as your support over the years of my work with the Talladega County Economic Development Authority.”
Miller’s replacement as Executive Director, Brian Crichton has been in the Sylacauga office for the past several months of transition, “Calvin has been quite welcoming and supportive.”
