SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Talladega National Forest Ranger District is planning to burn 150 acres today, eight miles east of Sylacauga in the Hollins Wildlife Management area.
Forest Service Roads 601H, 601I and Hwy. 148 form portions of the burn boundary and should be traveled with caution. During today’s burn, the public will notice fire crews and equipment along Hwy. 148. Smoke will be visible from Hwy 21, Hwy. 148 and the Sylacauga area.
The wind is expected to be out of the west and carry the smoke to the east east towards Bulls Gap. As the temperatures cool later today, the smoke may settle down to the north in the Tallasseehatchee Creek drainage along Forest Service Roads 601 and 607. Some settling may also occur around the general area of the burn along Hwy. 148. Signs will be posted. If encountering smoke on roadways, please slow down, turn on your low-beam headlights and use caution when encountering prescribed burning operations and smoke.
If you have any questions, please contact the Talladega Office at 256-362-2909.
