SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Chris Wilson, star defensive end for the B.B. Comer Tigers, solidified his commitment to the University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawks on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 7, by signing his letter of intent during a ceremony at 2:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.
Wilson’s decision to join the Skyhawks follows his initial commitment announcement on Sunday, Jan. 28, marking a significant step forward in his football career.
A relationship built with UT-Martin defensive line coach Devin Santana was the turning point in Wilson’s recruitment.
“His decision made sense for [Chris],” said B.B. Comer head coach Adam Fossett. “That’s where he’ll spend his next four years. I told him, and I know his mom told him, that we can’t go to school there. It’s got to be a fit for you.”
Throughout his high school tenure, Wilson showcased remarkable talent, tallying impressive career statistics including 198 tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, six pass break-ups, one safety, and two defensive touchdowns.
Wilson garnered a number of football accomplishments at Comer including First Team status for All-County, All-Region, and All-State in 2023.
“He will leave a legacy here as one of the winningest players coming through here along with the other seniors,” Fossett remarked. “Chris did everything right.”
UT-Martin, a powerhouse in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), boasts a string of championships, clinching the conference crown consecutively from 2021 to 2023.
