SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Dominant. That’s the only word to describe Sylacauga volleyball in the area tournament.
It only took the required six sets for the Aggies to lift the the area title Thursday night at Sylacauga High School.
The Aggies took care of business against Talladega in the first round, eliminating the Tigers while securing a spot in the playoffs next week. After Shelby County dropped Clay County in straight sets, it would be the Aggies and the Wildcats in the best-of-five area championship match.
Again, Sylacauga brought its best when it mattered.
The Wildcats were no match for the Aggies as Sylacauga took the champion match with ease in three sets (25-16, 25-5, 25-19). With the win, Sylacauga finishes area play a perfect 8-0 in the season.
“I’m so proud of our girls. When I got here we knew we had talent, and they showed it tonight. To sweep the tournament in six [sets] is impressive,” said volleyball coach Rebecca Paterson. “We still have our goals in front of us. We are going to enjoy this and then turn our focus on the next round.”
Sylacauga’s ‘All Tournament Team’ included Catherine Price, Mackenzie Bowen and Mason Porch. Brighton Clary took home tournament MVP honors.
Sylacauga will move on to regionals next Wednesday in Montgomery with a first match time of 2:00.
