SYLACAUGA, Ala. – This Saturday, May 21, AltaPointe Health is bringing awareness to mental health with its “Stepping Up for Mental Health” event at Central Park in Sylacauga.

From 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., the free, family-friendly event is open to the public and will provide information about mental health illnesses, substance use disorder, and more.

There will also be an obstacle course, horseback riding, craft tables, and popcorn for the children to enjoy.

DJ Kenny Ray Funderburg, who was formerly named First Responder of the Month, will provide music at the event, and the Dancing Stars of Talladega, directed by Shannon Darby, will perform.

The Stepping Up Initiative is a national program with the goal to reduce the number of individuals with mental illness in jails. It is managed at the county level to establish effective partnerships across individuals in law enforcement, local governmental entities, elected officials, mental health and healthcare providers, courts, and other partners to help meet the goal.

Central Park in Sylacauga is located across from Blue Bell Creameries.

AltaPointe Health is an extensive healthcare system providing primary and behavioral healthcare. Each year it provides more than one million services to 45,000 patients across Alabama.
