SYLACAUGA, Ala. – While you pump gas into your vehicle at the Allen Food Mart on Old Birmingham Hwy. you can also pump a portion of the final sale price into supporting organizations of your local schools.

At the gas station and convenient store there are pumps designated to allow you to give back to local schools. School specific pumps sit back-to-back for the B.B. Comer Tigers and the Sylacauga Aggies at the Allen Oil Company headquarters.

Allen Oil has coined the the pumps “Spirit Pumps,” and people are already showing school spirit after less than a day of of beginning the promotion.

“People are pulling up to the B.B. Comer and waiting to use that pump even with other pumps available,” said owner Tim Allen. ” People are doing the same thing with Sylacauga.”

The idea came from Sylacauga’s show choir director Martez Tidwell. Allen explained Tidwell saw the concept in another area and brought the idea back with him to Sylacauga. After getting in touch with both schools and gaining permission to use their logos and graphics, the pumps are up and ready to go.

Allen says this is not a temporary promotion, and he plans to have the pumps up indefinitely. The goal is to have a portion of proceeds go to supporting organizations of each school.
