WINTERBORO Ala.- Winterboro head football coach Alan Beckett announced he is resigning, to pursue an offensive coordinator position at Class 7A Gadsden City.
During seven seasons at Winterboro, Beckett led the team to 34 wins and three consecutive playoff appearances on the football field.
Beckett’s success did not stop on the gridiron. He led the baseball program to an 88-64 record and earned three playoff berths.
Beckett leaves Winterboro as the school’s all-time winningest football and baseball coach.
In 2017, Beckett won the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Making a Difference Award, which recognizes individuals who go beyond their normal duties as a coach and teacher to make a positive impact in schools and communities.
“My goal at Winterboro was to be the best coach and teacher, while making a difference in the kids lives and I feel like we done that,” said Beckett.
Beckett is thankful for his time at Winterboro High School as both a teacher and coach, however this move will position him closer to home.
Talladega County School’s Coordinator of Secondary Programs, Griff Hill told SylacaugaNews.com the system thanks Beckett for his service to the students at Winterboro and they wish him well in his new position.
