MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Governor Kay Ivey has issued a State of Emergency concerning hurricane Irma and medical prescriptions based on a recommendation from the State Health Officer.
For the next 30 days, the Governor has directed that Alabama pharmacists may use their own good judgment in refilling prescriptions for non-controlled medications. A proclamation notes that Hurricane Irma “poses conditions of disaster and extreme peril” to both Alabamians and those evacuating into Alabama from other states; that many displaced individuals may not have ready access to their medications, prescriptions, and insurance records; and that pharmacists may also have difficulty obtaining refill authorizations.
