TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Environmental Management is partnering with the Talladega City Board of Education to reduce diesel emissions through a school bus replacement project funded by the Diesel Emission Reduction Act.
The project helped the school system replace two older diesel buses with one new model that meets tougher U.S. Environmental Protection Agency emission standards.
Older diesel buses emit harmful exhaust that can negatively affect human health, particularly for children, whose lungs are still developing and who breathe more rapidly than adults.
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management awarded Talladega City Schools $36,745 to help purchase the new, cleaner diesel bus. The agency said the project is part of its ongoing effort to improve air quality and reduce pollution across the state.
