SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Both Sylacauga and Briarwood won in walk-off fashion in the state quarterfinals.
Briarwood took down Chilton Co. Monday in a decisive game three to advance to play the Aggies with a state championship series birth on the line.
Sylacauga forced a game three versus the Bibb Co. Choctaws after losing game one and riding the heels of a dominant pitching performance from Tyler Thompson in game two. In game three, Sylacauga entered the bottom of the sixth down 5-2. The Aggies put up two in the sixth starting with a solo shot from senior shortstop Zach Dew. Catcher Nick Mauldin doubled off the left-center field fence in the next at bat. Senior Lane Strickland, pinch running for Mauldin, later came around to score.
The bottom of the seventh was filled with drama. Jordan Ridgeway led off the inning with a grounder back up the middle. Ridgeway later scored on a Mauldin double down the right field line. The scored on a Nick Mauldin. After walking senior Brady Davis, the bases were loaded with only one out and the game was in Andrew Schmidt’s hands.
Schmidt delivered.
Schmidt’s walk-off single scored Dew from third. Surely you have seen the video, but for nostalgia, we can watch it again.
Now the focus moves to the Briarwood Christian Lions.

Game one will begin at 11:00 Friday morning. Game two is scheduled for 1:30 Friday afternoon.
