SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The B.B. Comer Memorial Library will host another guest speaker in the Adult Brown Bag Series Lecture Series this Wednesday, Feb. 2. at 12:00 p.m.
The series, sponsored by the First Bank of Alabama, is beginning its Winter 2022 season titled “Reflecting the Past — Celebrating the Future” with Lee Sentell as the first guest.
Mr. Sentell earned a journalism degree from Auburn University and is serving his fifth consecutive term as the state’s tourism director. Sentell also worked as the marketing director for the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville and helped recruit the first 100,000 students to Space Camp.
Sentell, an Ashland native, launched the campaign for his book “The Official U.S. Civil Rights Trail: What Happened Here Changed the World” in June of 2021 at Atlanta’s Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Park.
“What Happened Here Changed the World” follows the journey of multiple freedom fighters of the Civil Rights Movement as they took part in “school integration, protest marches, freedom rides, and sit-ins.” The book covers events throughout two decades and 15 states.
The book is an extension of the U.S. Civil Rights Trail that Sentell created in 2004. The path locates more than 120 civil rights landmarks that are open to the public and establishes the most appropriate touring path.
