BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Monday evening, Nov. 28, Alabama’s state prison system confirmed that one current employee as well as a former state worker were arrested and charged with a number of crimes including bribery.
The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) announced that current Capt. Deaundra Johnson along with former Lt. Centauria Olds were arrested on multiple ethics charges including Bribery of a Public Servant.
Currently, Johnson’s position with ADOC is under review. She was working at the Childersburg Community Work Center. However, until the investigation is completed, Johnson is placed on mandatory leave.
According to authorities, Johnson and Olds were officially charged with four counts each of Bribery and Using Official Position for Personal Gain.
Court records show that Olds was arrested last year on an accusation of accepting money from an inmate in exchange for bringing contraband into the prison.
“The ADOC is committed to enforcing its zero-tolerance policy on contraband, particularly when it comes to policing our own,” said Alabama Corrections Commissioner John Hamm.
Both women were booked into the Jefferson County jail on $180,000 bond. Johnson managed to post bail Tuesday afternoon.
Additional charges may be made pending further investigation.
