SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The 5th Annual B.B. Comer Alumni Golf Tournament is set for Saturday, May 25 at the Sylacauga Country Club.

Anybody is eligible to play in the four-man scramble, and the cost is $100 per player or $400 per team. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100. OMYA of Alabama is the tournament sponsor. The tournament proceeds go to B.B. Comer High School.

Tee time is at 8:30 a.m., but event organizers will be at the club at 7:15 a.m. for registration. Players may register the day of the tournament or they may contact Randy Caine, the B.B. Comer Alumni Association President, at 256-347-1035. Lunch will be served after the tournament.

Caine said that the tournament has helped raise approximately $80,000 for B.B. Comer Athletics. The golf tournament and other events put on by the B.B. Comer Alumni Association, such as concerts, have helped generate funds for more than just athletics. Caine said the B.B. Comer Alumni Association started giving scholarships to Sylacauga High School and B.B. Comer High School students two years ago.

“It goes a long way for the little things that the coaches need,” Caine said. “If we can actually get enough participation, not only does the band need help, the cheerleaders need help. You only got so many funds, but we are trying to get a wider span of support if we could.”

Caine said they want people to spread the word about the tournament.

“We’ve had people donate to us that don’t play golf, have not been to any of our concerts, but they know where the money is going,” Caine said. “We can make sure that everyone knows if you give us $100 for something here’s where it is going.”

For more information about the tournament contact Randy Caine or Bittie Hawthorne at 256-267-2810. Caine also said that information is available on the B.B. Comer High School Alumni Facebook page.
