Childersburg City Council meeting – April 6, 2021

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council met on Tuesday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m. with the following agenda of items for action:

The Council voted to approve Resolution 2021-12, which gives approval to award a $1,226,000 contract to MJ Brooks & Sons for a renovation and addition project for the 1976 Limbaugh Community Center.

Approval was given to Resolution 2021-13, which extends a Letter of Intent for Sofos Harbert, a world leader in design, development, and construction of renewable solar energy facilities, for an option to purchase or lease 700 +/- acres of property in the Industrial Park.

A Proclamation was read into the meeting records, whereby Mayor Ken Wesson proclaimed the week of April 10-16 as the Week of the Young Child.

The Council voted to approve the reappointment of Mack Lee to the Childersburg Water Works Sewer and Gas Board for a term expiring on March 6, 2027. In a related matter, Mayor Ken Wesson formalized the appointment of Wes Allen as the Council Liaison through October 31, 2024.

Approval was given to the Police Department to purchase 20 Glock Model 45 firearms with light and holder accessories at a rate of $634.40 per unit, for a total of $12,688, with $4,830 collected in donations and the balance to be paid from Fund 10. Approval was given for officers to purchase their duty weapons at accessed trade-in value of $317.

The Council approved reimbursement to Brandon Hughes for required APOSTC Firearms Instructor training, for lodging and per diem.

Approval was also given to the Fire Department to purchase a Frigidaire Dishwasher from Home Depot at a cost not to exceed $400. Also approved was the purchase of pump assembly for the Brush Truck at a cost of $3,800.

The Council gave approval for the Street & Sanitation Department to hire T. Glenn Stubblefield as equipment operator at the CDL rate of $11 per hour as a full-time permanent employee. Upon completion of a satisfactory probationary period, the rate will rise to $11.75.

Approval was also given to replace flooring at cost in the Fire Department’s Captain’s office due to water damage.

The Council approved the purchase of a 30’ X 30’ shade for playground equipment at Kiwanis Park at a cost of $10,212.08 with Childersburg Kiwanis investing half the project cost of the purchase from Pet and Playground Products.

Invoices were approved for payment in the amount of $189,469.71.

Work during Talladega County Commissioner Malley Limbaugh’s Spring Clean-up Day was praised, with over 98 bags of litter collected and disposed of along city roadways. 25 individuals participated, along with two groups, one family. 14 businesses pledged to continue to keep adjacent properties cleaned on a regular basis.

The next regular meeting of the Council will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20. The meeting will be preceded from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. by a Town Hall meeting to discuss garbage and refuse.
