19-year old man fatally shot early Sunday morning in Sylacauga

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Police Department is seeking the help of the public in an ongoing investigation into a shooting incident that claimed the life of a 19-year-old Sylacauga man.

The incident occurred Sunday morning, July 2, at approximately 1:00 a.m. at the corner of Virginia Ave. and Scrooge Alley, within the old Avondale Mill Village.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the victim identified as Jason Anthony Swain, Jr., who had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

Despite efforts by bystanders to aid him, Swain would succumb to his injuries. The Sylacauga Ambulance promptly transported him to Coosa Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

As of now, no suspects are in custody. Sylacauga investigators, in collaboration with the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, are diligently working to locate the suspect and determine the motive behind the shooting.

The Sylacauga Police Department is urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and speak with their investigators.
