SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Police Department has arrested a 15-year-old Sylacauga High School student in connection with a text message threat made on Wednesday, Jan. 19. Charged with “Making a Terrorist Threat”, the female was placed in juvenile detention in Anniston to await an initial appearance hearing set for Monday, Jan. 24.
SPD investigators worked tirelessly on the case, according to Chief Kelley Johnson. Officers and investigators along with high school administrators and teachers had increased their presence on campus to help students and faculty feel safe in classrooms.
Such a crime is a Class C Felony, punishable by from one year and one day to 10 years in prison. As a juvenile, the offender will be prosecuted in the District Court of Talladega County, Juvenile Division.
