SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Schools program called Face to Face will have its second session on Thursday, December 7. The event is geared for parents and adults in the community and will take place at the J. Craig Smith Community Center at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The topic for discussion will be “HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases – Prevention Works!” The meeting will be led by Tom Robertson, northeastern district HIV/AIDS coordinator for the Alabama Department of Public Health.

The meeting is open to all adults; however, due to the sensitive nature of the topic, only middle school and high school students should attend.

Tom Robertson is co-founder of FOCUS, a program that promotes school and community partnerships for the prevention of HIV/AIDS and other adolescent risk behaviors. Robertson has conducted assemblies and provided education for schools, juvenile detention centers, churches, medical professionals, and community groups throughout the southeast. He is a graduate of Jacksonville State University and is a highly requested speaker on the topic of HIV/AIDS in the state.

Robertson lives in Gadsden and has been featured on Fox 6’s “Absolutely Alabama” with Fred Hunter.

“Face to Face is open to all adults in the community and not limited to only families of Sylacauga students,” said Wendy Arnold, RTI Specialist at Sylacauga City Schools and facilitator for Face to Face. “The program provides an opportunity to open the doors to a greater conversation that adults should be having with their children.”

For further information, please contact Wendy Arnold at 256-401-6724.
