It’s a gift to grow and learn every day.
Some folks might think that by now I ought to know it all. I don’t. Truth is, I learn—or relearn—something just about every day.
Learning something new is exciting.
Relearning a lesson is different. That’s like walking into a wall you’ve already hit once. Painful. Embarrassing. And you’d swear you saw it coming the second time. It’s a good thing God has patience with slow learners.
I’ve always thought growing is a lot like planting a seed. The seed breaks through the crust of the soil. Then come the leaves, branches, and maybe a flower. But growth doesn’t happen without sunlight, water, good soil—and sometimes a little pruning.
People aren’t very different.
Sometimes growing means stepping outside our comfort zone. Taking a risk. Facing fear. Admitting we were wrong. Letting go of something that no longer serves us.
We grow through experience. Challenges push us. Failure teaches us. Success teaches us…if we’re humble enough to listen.
And sometimes it means taking a good, honest look in the mirror. Knowing our strengths and weaknesses is a good measure for how and where we need to grow.
The goal isn’t to become somebody else. It’s to become the best version of ourselves. And there’s no age limit on that. You can grow at twenty, fifty, or eighty. As long as you’re breathing, there’s still something to learn.
Life keeps changing, too. What worked yesterday may not work for tomorrow. The road changes. Circumstances change. We change. The trick is to keep learning from it all. Read something. Try something new. Listen more. Ask questions. Admit when you don’t know.
Growth isn’t about being finished. It’s about being willing to take the next step. Putting down more roots. Reaching for the light but letting dark storms teach you something.
Keep learning. Keep growing. And if you run into that same wall again, well…try not to hit it quite so hard.
