WEOGUFKA, Ala. – 44 students from Coosa County’s Central High School participated in the school’s annual Flagg Mountain field day.

Students hiked, learned about the Pinhoti Trail, identified trees, and received map-and-compass instruction. They also learned about the history of the stone lookout tower and cabins built on Flagg Mountain in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps as part of the New Deal’s job-relief and conservation programs.

The students also enjoyed lunch, grilling hot dogs, making s’mores, and preparing homemade ice cream during their adventurous day at historic Flagg Mountain.
