EAST CENTRAL ALABAMA – Let’s start by acknowledging that a list of October events like this is bound to miss a few. The month is absolutely chock-full of Trunk or Treats, Fall Festivals, and other family-friendly activities taking place throughout the region.
With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the events we discovered, beginning with a busy Saturday, Oct. 10.
The Town of Oak Grove’s annual Fall Festival, originally scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., has been canceled. The event was set to include kids’ activities, vendors, food trucks, a car show, and live music throughout the day.
Later that evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department will host an event also being put on by the Lay Lake and Marble Valley Volunteer Fire Departments. Fayetteville Baptist Church will hold its own Trunk or Treat from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Things pick back up the following weekend. On Saturday, Oct. 17, Trinity Assembly of God, located at 3010 Old Birmingham Hwy, will hold a Fall Festival from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with food, games, and family fun.
Also that evening, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., an event will be held in conjunction with CarniFall at Childersburg First Methodist Church. Meanwhile, the B.B. Comer Band Boosters will take a darker approach to the season with “CarnEvil” Haunted Hayride and Carnival at Sylacauga’s Lake Howard Park. That event runs from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, the Sylacauga Housing Authority will host a Fall Festival at the Drew Court Field, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The afternoon will include a bounce house, food, drinks, games, and more.
The following Saturday, Oct. 24, Sylacauga Parks and Recreation will host what it calls the “GrandDaddy” of Trunk or Treats from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sylacauga’s Central Park. In addition to plenty of candy, the event will feature games, face painting, food trucks, prizes and surprises, a balloon artist, inflatables, and more.
The final week of October is especially busy.
On Wednesday, Oct. 28, Sylacauga First and St. Thomas United Methodist churches will team up from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. inside the FUMC Fellowship Hall. Visitors can expect chili, hot dogs, and plenty of candy. Sylacauga Pediatrics will also hold its annual Trunk or Treat that day, although the time had not been announced.
Thursday, Oct. 29, brings two more Trunk or Treat events through Central Alabama Community College. One will be held at the Alexander City Campus and another at the Childersburg Campus, with both events featuring games, food trucks, and plenty of free candy. Both are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
On Friday, Oct. 30, Childersburg Primary Care will host a Trunk or Treat from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In Sylacauga, a host of Hwy 280 businesses will come together for their fourth annual Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with food, games, music, candy, and more.
Halloween itself, Saturday, Oct. 31, will offer several opportunities for families to get out and celebrate.
Hollins Volunteer Fire and Rescue will host a Fall Festival from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., featuring games, prizes, a cake walk, a raffle, and plenty of food. Earlier in the day, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Sylacauga will host a Trunk or Treat.
Then, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Town of Rockford will hold its annual Trunk or Treat at 688 U.S. Hwy 231.
With so many events packed into the month, families looking for a little Halloween and fall fun should have plenty of opportunities to find something close to home.
