Sylacauga police charge juvenile in Courtside Park incident

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Police Department has charged a juvenile in connection with a Tuesday, Oct. 6 incident at Courtside Park following an investigation into the matter.

Police said the juvenile was taken to the Coosa Valley Detention Center and has been barred from Sylacauga Parks and Recreation properties.

Investigators also have identified two additional suspects in the case. Police said charges against those individuals are pending. The two suspects were also identified in connection with a Sept. 29 incident in the Courtside Park area as well.

The Sylacauga Police Department said the investigation has made significant progress and that officers remain committed to identifying those involved and pursuing appropriate charges.

Police also reminded residents that anyone charged with criminal activity occurring at a Sylacauga city park will be prohibited from entering Sylacauga Parks and Recreation properties for at least one year.

The department said city parks are intended to provide safe spaces for residents and families and that officers will continue taking steps to promote public safety at those facilities.
