SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will hold board appointment interviews, a work session, and a regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 1, with the meeting beginning with a public hearing on a proposed ordinance related to feeding wild and feral dogs.

Board appointment interviews will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Faye Hosey Chambers at City Hall. The council will interview applicants for open positions on the Airport Authority Board, the Historical Commission, the Library Board, the Industrial Development Board, and the Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals.

During the work session, council members will hear budget appropriation and contract requests from several organizations and departments, including the Sylacauga City Schools Board of Education, the Commercial Development Authority, the Beautification Council, and the Feral Dogs of Avondale Mills.

The regular meeting will open with a public hearing to discuss and consider adoption of Ordinance 2290-26, which addresses the feeding of wild and feral dogs within the designated Hwy 280 Corridor Business District.

Following the hearing, the council is expected to vote on the ordinance. Approval would adopt the measure as currently presented. If revisions are recommended and accepted, the proposed ordinance would be readvertised and a new public hearing would be scheduled before further action is taken.

The council will also consider a request from Jack’s Food Mart, located at 1194 Talladega Hwy, for a retail beer license for off-premises consumption, a retail table wine license for off-premises consumption, and authorization to sell tobacco and alternative nicotine products.

Additional agenda items include accepting the terms of a Settlement Agreement and Mutual Release and authorizing payment under the agreement as well as setting a public hearing for a proposed annexation.

If approved, the annexation public hearing for property located at 844 Old Sylacauga Hwy would be scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20 during a regular City Council meeting.

The council will conclude its business by considering approval of FY26 accounts payable invoices.
