TALLADEGA, Ala. – A statement from the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind said the board and Dr. Dennis Gilliam “reached a mutual agreement not to renew Dr. Gilliam’s contract as President.”
Only weeks after the release of state audits, the President of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind will be replaced. The school has not announced a permanent or interim replacement. Gilliam’s contract is set to expire Aug. 31, 2026.
Five consecutive years of state audits revealed repeated financial control issues. The audits also showed the school’s cash reserves had declined by nearly 80 percent since 2022, while its operating budget gap had nearly doubled since 2021.
