SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The City of Sylacauga, the Sylacauga Board of Education, and Sylacauga High School will honor longtime coach and community leader Earl Lewis with a track dedication ceremony on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Legion Stadium.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will officially dedicate the stadium track in Lewis’ name. The event will feature remarks from the Rev. Billy Coleman as well as members of Lewis’ family.
Organizers said the dedication recognizes Lewis’ decades of service to Sylacauga High School and his lasting contributions to the community. The Sylacauga High School Athletic Alumni Association, also known as the S Club Alumni Association, is encouraging residents and former students to attend and show their support.
“Coach Lewis dedicated his career to Sylacauga High School and his life to our beloved City of Sylacauga,” organizers said in announcing the event.
Immediately following the dedication, the community will gather for the annual Sylacauga Aggies Football Pep Rally, which serves as a kickoff celebration ahead of the Aggies’ season opener against Holtville. The game is scheduled for this Friday, Aug. 21.
Lewis died Nov. 16, 2025. He was 87 years old.
