Childersburg Area Chamber of Commerce highlights upcoming events, celebrates school reading scores

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – RadioAlabama’s Lee Perryman welcomed attendees to the August Chamber Coffee hosted by the Childersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and shared information about the company’s regional reach and community focus.

“Our mission is to meet people and make a difference,” Perryman said. “We have 63 people on our payroll across 13 radio stations serving communities along U.S. Hwy 280 from Chelsea to Auburn-Opelika and from Pell City to Montgomery, along with affiliated websites and mobile apps.”

Perryman said the coverage area includes approximately 2.8 million residents who rely on local media for entertainment and community news.

“Our focus is on high school sports, bringing play-by-play action to loyal fan bases,” he said.

The Chamber also announced several upcoming community events. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Frontline Offroad on Hwy 280 is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21 at 11:00 a.m.

Another ribbon-cutting ceremony for B&A Photography, also on Hwy 280, will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 10:00 a.m.

Childersburg Trade Days will take place Saturday, Aug. 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the original John Cox Stadium. The Chamber will host a job fair on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Childersburg Parks and Recreation. Vendor registration is also underway for Childersburg Oktoberfest, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17.

Positive news was also shared by the Talladega County School system. Third grade reading assessment results for South Talladega County elementary schools were recently released, with Watwood Elementary School achieving a score of 93, while Fayetteville Elementary School and Childersburg Elementary School each earned perfect scores of 100.
