SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Families are invited to explore downtown Sylacauga through a unique reading adventure as the B. B. Comer Memorial Library continues its monthly Sidewalk Story program through Monday, Aug. 31.
The self-guided activity combines literacy, exercise, and community engagement by displaying pages from a featured children’s book in storefront windows along N Broadway Ave. Participants begin at the library and follow the story as it winds through downtown, with pages posted at locations including the Sylacauga Board of Education and the Sylacauga Municipal Complex.
Library officials said the program is designed to encourage families to enjoy time together while discovering local businesses, restaurants, and public spaces. Readers can move at their own pace, stopping along the route to read each page from the sidewalk before continuing to the next location.
The Sidewalk Story experience also gives local businesses an opportunity to welcome families into the downtown area and share in the community-focused event.
After completing the story, participants are encouraged to return to the library to share their experience. Children who finish the route can receive a small prize from the library.
