SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday, Aug. 4, following a work session that will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Faye Hosey Chambers at City Hall.
During the meeting, council members are expected to consider several resolutions and expenditures affecting city operations, public safety, infrastructure, and recreational facilities.
Among the items on the agenda is a resolution to amend the Police Department budget to cover additional expenses associated with bulletproof vests and badges.
The council will also consider a resolution related to the Park St. asphalt project, including a corresponding budget amendment.
Council members are expected to vote on a resolution authorizing the city to enter into contracts associated with the construction of the new Sylacauga Recreational Center.
Additional agenda items include approval of expenditures for upgrades at the Isabel Anderson Comer Museum and Arts Center. The proposed purchases include improvements to the museum’s sound system and replacement of its HVAC unit. Both projects would be funded through 2024-A bond proceeds.
The council will also consider authorizing the hiring of two temporary workers for the Sylacauga Animal Shelter to help address current staffing shortages.
In financial business, the council is slated to review and approve fiscal year 2026 Accounts Payable invoices.
An executive session is also scheduled as part of Tuesday night’s meeting.
