CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Community gatherings in Childersburg, including City Council meetings and Childersburg Area Chamber Coffee events, often provide updates on projects and initiatives affecting local residents.
City officials announced that paperwork has been completed for a grant from the Alabama Historical Commission, and work is underway on repairs to the covered bridge at Kymulga Grist Mill Park. The city is also exploring additional funding opportunities through the National Covered Bridge Association. Officials said repairs are needed for two historic structures on the property, and preservation requirements make securing grant funding an ongoing priority.
The city has finalized a $3.29 million Industrial Access Grant, clearing the way for road improvements that will support planned expansions by Cooper Steel South and Super Rock/Blair Block in the Childersburg Industrial Park. Project engineers are currently reviewing plans and preparing cost estimates before construction begins.
A Rebuild Alabama paving grant application for Bates Addition and Ninth Ave. was not selected for funding this year. However, the program previously funded road improvements and paving in the Forest Hills area.
As local schools continue renovation projects ahead of the new academic year, the SAFE-Bridges Program has remained active at the R.S. Limbaugh Community Center, providing activities and programming for participating students through the end of summer and into the start of the school year.
Coosa Valley Technologies is seeking to expand broadband internet service within the Childersburg community. Residents interested in receiving service are encouraged to register their addresses through the Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative website and encourage neighbors to do the same.
City officials also reminded residents that tree removal contractors are responsible for disposing of debris generated during their work. Debris from contractor-performed tree cutting is not covered under the city’s yard waste collection and disposal contract.
