SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga City Schools has recognized Board of Education member Gregory Bailey for his five years of service and contributions to the school system.
Bailey, a retired educator with more than three decades of classroom experience, has served on the school board since 2021. School officials said his background in education played a key role in helping guide district initiatives and long-term planning.
During his tenure, Bailey served as Vice President of the board during the 2023-24 school year and as President during the 2024-25 school year.
Among his accomplishments, Bailey helped lead the board’s policy updates in 2023 and supported athletic facility renovations at Legion Stadium and Douglass-Martin Court in 2025. He also assisted in creating opportunities for the district’s Modern Manufacturing Program to expand as it prepares to move to the Transportation Center under the leadership of Justin Browning.
“I am grateful to the City Council members who entrusted me with my seat five years ago,” Bailey said. “I’ve worked with some great colleagues over the years. I’m also thankful for the support of my family during my time on the Board of Education.”
Bailey’s career in education spans 35 years in Alabama, along with additional classroom experience in Georgia. School officials praised the knowledge and perspective he brought to the board throughout his service.
Bailey is married to Patricia Bailey, a former Sylacauga City Schools educator who retired as a National Board Certified Teacher. The couple has two children, Raymond and Victoria, both graduates of Sylacauga High School.
Sylacauga City Schools thanked Bailey for his dedication and service, noting that his leadership and commitment have helped shape the district’s continued growth and success.
