LINCOLN, Ala. – A major law enforcement excavation is underway on Wolf Pond Rd. in Talladega County, between Lincoln and Pell City.
The excavation site is located in an open field and does not contain any standing structures.
The operation is being led by the Pell City Police Department following a tip that investigators say is connected to an open case. Assisting at the scene are the FBI, the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office, the Lincoln Police Department, and the Jacksonville State University Center for Applied Forensics.
Authorities have declined to provide details about what they are searching for but have confirmed the activity is related to an ongoing investigation.
The prolonged excavation effort and the involvement of forensic specialists have fueled speculation among local residents that the search could be connected to a cold case, including the 1992 disappearance of Felicia Cochran in Pell City. However, law enforcement officials have not publicly linked the operation to any specific case.
