SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday evening, July 21 following a work session beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Faye Hosey Chambers at City Hall.
Council members will review a range of items during the meeting, including animal control initiatives, infrastructure projects, budget amendments, and contracts related to the city’s planned recreational center.
In Old Business, the council is expected to consider accepting a proposal from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society aimed at addressing ongoing animal control concerns along the U.S. Hwy 280 corridor and surrounding areas and businesses.
The council will also consider authorizing a change order for the Lake Louise project, shifting the project from a bridge replacement to the construction of a new road while maintaining its original funding source through 2024-A bond proceeds.
Additional Old Business items include amendments to resolutions involving appointments for the Sylacauga Municipal Court’s prosecutor and public defenders, along with adjustments to their contracted pay rates for fiscal year 2026.
Council members will also review a proposed budget amendment for the Sylacauga Fire Department related to building repair and maintenance needs at Fire Station No. 2.
Another budget amendment under consideration would provide funding for the Street Department following the city’s recently awarded landscaping and horticultural services contract with DeWeese Lawns, LLC, which became effective May 1, 2026.
The council is also expected to consider an amendment related to the city’s Ricoh copier lease agreement.
Under New Business, council members will consider entering into contracts associated with construction of the new Sylacauga Recreational Center.
The council will also review a request to increase the starting pay rate for Police Officer Alicia Simpson to PDC-1 Step 3, retroactive to her July 7, 2026 hire date, based on her ten years of law enforcement experience.
Another item would set a public hearing for a proposed ordinance addressing animal control concerns along the Hwy 280 corridor and surrounding areas, including regulations related to feeding stray and feral animals.
Council members are also expected to consider funding to reserve an ice-skating rink for the upcoming Christmas season.
The agenda also includes approval of fiscal year 2026 accounts payable invoices and June 2026 payrolls.
