CHILDERSBURG, Ala – Childersburg Elks Lodge 2295 opened their grounds to the public to open for a fun community celebration of “250USA” while highlighting their support for their home community along with more far-reaching causes.
“We try to be as supportive as we possibly can of things in our area – first responders, nursing homes, hosting blood drives, but especially our veterans,” explained Lodge Exalted Ruler Mark McDickenson.
As part of their Grand National Convention commitment to those who served in our armed forces, the local lodge has “adopted” the local veterans clinic in Childersburg, says Amber McDickenson, “We make sure we provide meals on a regular basis, create events at least monthly, and always try to acknowledge their birthdays in special ways, to make sure our veterans know they are loved and appreciated.”
McDickenson says that another important cause is Camp ASCCA in Tallapoosa County, which provides camping experiences for children and adults with disabilities year-round, “Together, Elks Lodges across Alabama contribute $50,000 every summer, plus special funding project donations from individual lodges. We’ll be celebrating Camp ASCCA Day with them on July 18th.”
In the meantime, helping Elks’ support of their community and causes always includes a lot fun events and activities, like “Stars Over Childersburg: and their own 250USA event that included cornhole, horseshoe, and dart tournaments, karaoke, along with hot-off-the-grill hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, cold drinks, and more, including a great fireworks display after dark. It was a truly festive day to celebrate 250 years of American Freedom in the Childersburg community.
