SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will hold a work session at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, in the Faye Hosey Chambers, with the regular council meeting immediately following.
During the work session, council members will consider a proposal from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society to address animal control issues along the U.S. Highway 280 corridor and surrounding areas. They will also discuss awarding the bid for the new Sylacauga Recreation Center with representatives from Williams Blackstock Architects and Parks and Recreation Executive Director Steve Masters.
Additional discussions include a revised nuisance abatement bid document, payroll corrections for an animal control officer, a budget amendment for repairs at Fire Station 2, requests to hire a firefighter and a magistrate at adjusted pay grades, administrative corrections involving city prosecutor appointments, garbage rates for apartment complexes, and the city’s copier lease. Council members will also review a budget amendment related to the landscaping and horticultural contract, proposed address changes for Coaling Road, and possible revisions to the council’s rules of procedure.
During the regular meeting to follow, the council is expected to vote on the animal control proposal, adopt the Commercial Development Authority’s Urban Renewal Proposal Phase 1, award contracts for the Boat Dock Lane paving project at Lake Howard, approve a retiree increase through the Retirement Systems of Alabama, renew the city’s UKG software contract, and consider administrative corrections to garbage rate and copier lease resolutions. The agenda also includes appointments to the Commercial Development Authority, the Sylacauga Parks and Recreation Board, and the Historical Commission, along with approval of payroll adjustments.
New business includes awarding the construction bid for the new Sylacauga Recreation Center, approving pay adjustments for a firefighter and a magistrate, and approving fiscal year 2026 accounts payable invoices and the June 2026 payrolls.
