SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga City Schools has named Alisa Benson as its new Chief School Financial Officer following approval at a called meeting of the Sylacauga City Board of Education on Monday, June 29.
Benson, who holds MBA, CPM, and SFO credentials, most recently served as Finance Education Administrator for the Alabama Department of Education, a position she has held for the past three years. Prior to that role, she spent a decade working as a Chief School Financial Officer in Alabama school systems.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller said Benson’s experience and expertise will benefit the district.
“In her role at the Alabama State Department of Education, Ms. Benson serves as a mentor for new Chief School Financial Officers throughout the state,” Eller said. “Her wealth of experience and knowledge will be an asset to our system.”
School officials said Benson’s extensive background in school finance and administrative leadership made her a strong candidate for the position. Interviews were conducted during a public meeting of the Board of Education, allowing board members to hear directly from candidates before making their selection.
Board President Olwyn Twymon welcomed Benson to the district and praised her financial leadership experience.
“We are thrilled to welcome our new Chief School Financial Officer, Alisa Benson, whose exceptional financial leadership will ensure our resources are strategically maximized to support student achievement and support our schools,” Twymon said.
Under Alabama law, every local board of education is required to employ a bondable Chief School Financial Officer. Benson will begin her new role with Sylacauga City Schools on Thursday, July 16.
