TALLADEGA, Ala. – A Talladega city councilman has increased the reward being offered for information in the homicide investigation of 18-year-old Jy’Kavien Wright.
Ward 1 Councilman Steve Dickerson has contributed $1,000 of his personal funds to the reward, bringing the total amount available to $2,000. Dickerson said the killing occurred in his ward and that he hopes the additional reward will help investigators identify those responsible while encouraging other citizens and council members to become involved.
The Talladega Police Department continues to investigate Wright’s death.
According to police, officers responded at approximately 2:24 a.m. on Sunday, May 31 to a residence in the 600 block of McAlpine St. in reference to a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, officers found Wright lying on a sidewalk suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police noted that Wright’s death came just two weeks after he received his diploma from Talladega High School.
