SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council approved a temporary moratorium on new vape, tobacco, and package liquor businesses during its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 2, in the Faye Hosey Chambers at City Hall.
The meeting followed board appointment interviews and the council’s regularly scheduled work session.
As part of old business, council members approved a one-year moratorium on the issuance of business licenses and permits for vape and tobacco retailers and package liquor stores.
In new business, the council awarded the highest-scoring Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for engineering services related to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for a three-year period.
The council also set a public hearing for the city’s fiscal year 2027 CDBG grant application. The hearing will be held Tuesday, June 16, at 6:00 p.m.
Council members approved starting pay for police officer Lawrence Shaw at PDC-1, Step 2, effective on his hire date.
The council also approved fiscal year 2026 accounts payable invoices totaling $864,065.15.
The next meeting of the Sylacauga City Council is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16.
