ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. – Central Alabama Community College has named Thomas Sowell as the new head coach of its women’s flag football program, school officials announced on Saturday, May 23.
Sowell brings more than a decade of coaching experience across multiple sports, including flag football, football, basketball, golf, soccer, cross country, and powerlifting. College officials said his leadership and experience will help strengthen the rapidly growing program.
At Marbury High School, Sowell guided the girls flag football team to an Elite Eight appearance in 2024 and coached the school’s 5A girls powerlifting championship team in 2020. He also has been recognized in the community as a Teacher of the Year recipient and was named among the Prattville Chamber of Commerce’s Top 20 Under 40.
“I am incredibly honored and excited to become the flag football coach at Central Alabama Community College,” Sowell said in a statement. “I look forward to developing a culture built on hard work, discipline, competitiveness, and character.”
Sowell said he plans to focus on recruiting athletes throughout Alabama and the surrounding region while building a foundation for long-term success.
Central Alabama Community College President Jeff Lynn said the school is excited to launch women’s flag football with Sowell leading the program.
Sowell is a graduate of Stanhope Elmore High School, Auburn University at Montgomery, and Troy University. He currently serves as an administrator at Marbury High School and will coach part time at CACC.
