CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council approved a series of equipment purchases, vehicle transfers, and infrastructure improvements during its Tuesday, May 19 meeting.
Council members approved Resolution 2026-15 declaring a 2004 Ford Excursion, identified as vehicle No. 1163, surplus property no longer needed for municipal use. The council also approved transferring a 2007 Ford pickup truck, vehicle No. 0356, from the Parks and Recreation Department to the Street Department.
Several requests from the Childersburg Police Department were approved, including the purchase of a Dell Latitude laptop cradle for a 2026 Ford Interceptor Explorer patrol vehicle at a cost of $740. The council also approved purchasing battery upgrades for handheld police radios from Motorola Solutions for $2,691.74.
Council members approved a request for Municipal Support Solutions to install a Windows 11 Pro computer upgrade for the City Hall payroll office. The $1,125 cost will be paid from Fund 08, the Alabama Trust Fund.
In other business, the council approved paying Johnny Swain $2,200 to repair asphalt around the electronic entrance gate at the Police/Judicial Building Complex. The council also approved payment of invoices totaling $326,687.95.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, following a 5:30 p.m. work session.
Before the meeting, Mayor Ken Wesson introduced Josie Harrison, Miss Hamilton’s Teen, who organized a glow-in-the-dark pickleball tournament to benefit programs at the Childersburg Senior Center. Harrison, a student at Sylacauga High School, raised $750 through the event.
Mayor Wesson also praised City Hall and Senior Center staff members for their efforts during the city’s 2026 Senior Fish Fry earlier this month.
“It was a lot of delicious fun for our seniors and the community as a whole,” Wesson said. “Everyone looks forward to it.”
The Mayor also reminded residents that Childersburg’s annual Memorial Day observance will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25, led by American Legion Post 68.
