SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga Parks and Recreation will host the first pickleball tournament at Courtside Park on Saturday, May 16, with proceeds benefiting the Sylacauga Parks and Recreation Foundation.
The tournament will move forward despite the postponement of the previously planned Super Sports Weekend civic organization fundraiser, which has been rescheduled for the fall. Organizers said games will begin at 10:00 a.m., and participants ages five and older are eligible to compete.
The event will feature a three-game guarantee starting with pool play, followed by a single-elimination bracket. Divisions will include doubles, mixed doubles, and age-based brackets determined by registration totals. Entry costs $25 per participant, with an additional $10 fee for each extra division entered.
Registration is available online at sylacauga.recdesk.com, by phone at (256) 249-8561, or in person at the J. Craig Smith Community Center.
The newly completed Courtside Park includes eight pickleball courts, a basketball court, pavilion with restrooms, seating, a filtered water fountain, and a turf green space. The park is located at the former municipal pool site at 707 N Norton Ave., adjacent to the community center.
